The lives of LGBTQ+ people are filled with contradictions. They could have both the greatest highs and deepest lows on the same day. They ask themselves two questions every day. First, who will I have to come out to and what will be their reaction? And second, what new civil right will be taken away today? This is a painful way to start a day.

At the same time, without LGBTQ+ role models, they have created lives filled with love, chosen family, celebrations, and fulfilling work. Each day is both the best and the worst of times.

At the Life Lessons from the LGBTQ+ Jewish Community panel, you’ll hear members of the LGBTQ+ Jewish community talk about how they manage these two opposite realities. How they maintain a balance between joy and fear, celebration and grieving. They have a lot to teach all of us.

This event is made possible thanks to a Community Engagement Grant from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health through its Prevention and Early Intervention funding and in collaboration with the California Mental Health Services Authority
